Post Docs

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs serves as a central resource on postdoctoral training and education at Northwestern University. This office provides information and assistance on recruitment, appointment, orientation, policies, employee relations (assist HR) and manages inquiries and requests from postdoctoral scholars, staff and faculty members.  We liaise on behalf of our constituents both internally with other university offices as well as external organizations.  The OPA seeks to foster better integration of postdoctoral fellows within the Northwestern community and provide professional development, career and quality of life programs.

Postdoctoral candidates: For questions regarding postdoctoral training opportunities at Northwestern, you should directly contact faculty members with whom you share research interests.  You are invited to review additional information available at our Finding Postdoctoral Positions web pages.

Postdoctoral Fellowships, Grants and awards:  There are numerous funding mechanisms available for early and late career postdoctoral scholars. A list of some of the funding mechanisms available to support your postdoctoral training at NU is continually updated by the OPA and is available here.

NU’s Office of Fellowships offers information and guidance on applying for various postdoctoral fellowships. They also provide a list of fellowship opportunities for postdoctoral scholars in the Arts and Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Math, Engineering as well as Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Postdoctoral Scholars are eligible to apply for Faculty Research Grants (FRG)which are intended to support research and creative projects in fields for which there is little or no external funding or start-up money available. Postdoctoral scholars with appointments in Divisions II and III (social sciences and humanities) of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, School of Communication, School of Education and Social Policy and Bienen School of Music are eligible to apply for these $5,000 awards.
