Chyi Chung, Senior Lecturer, was awarded the School of Continuing Studies’ Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award for 2008-2009. SCS awards three prizes each year, one for undergraduate teaching, another for graduate instruction, and a third for non-credit teaching.
Joel Colom-Mena, Lecturer, won a coveted place on the 2009-2010 ASG Faculty and Administrator Honor Roll in late May. The undergraduate student body selected him as one of seventy members on the Honor roll. The selection was very competitive, with great candidates across each of Northwestern's six schools.
Jorge Coronado, Associate Professor, published his first book, The Andes Imagined: Indigenismo, Society and Modernity (University of Pittsburgh Press), in Spring 2009. His study of the figure of the Indian in Andean countries’ vast projects of becoming modern appeared in the prestigious Illuminations series. He spent the academic year 2008-2009 on leave at the Getty Center where he worked on his new book on Andean photography.
Lucille Kerr, Professor, entered the second year of her new venture in scholarship and teaching: Latin American Jewish studies. In Fall 2009, she will offer a new course, Spanish 232: "Discovering Jewish Latin America," and in Winter 2010, a freshman seminar, "Exploring Jewish Argentina." As part of this initiative, she will also host campus visits by Latin American Jewish writers and artists.
