Courses in Portuguese Language
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers Intensive Portuguese for beginners (Portuguese 111/112). They are designed to be taken concurrently as a three-quarter sequence which covers material normally studied at the elementary (first-year) and intermediate (second-year) levels of language instruction.

Courses in Spanish Language
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers courses in elementary level/first-year Spanish (Spanish 101) for beginners, and intermediate level/second-year Spanish (Spanish 102). Spanish 101 and Spanish 102 are each three-quarter sequence courses. The Department also offers "Accelerated First Year Spanish" (Spanish 115), a two-quarter sequence course beginning in Winter Quarter for students who have previously studied 2 or more years of Spanish. Taking the NU online placement exam is a prerequisite for registration in 115.
