Isabella Vergara Calderon

Lecturer

Isabella Vergara C. holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Hispanic Studies from the University of California, Irvine, with a specialized focus on Critical Theory and Latin American Studies. Her research stands at the intersection of contemporary Latin American and Latinx literature, visual arts, sound studies, and critical and feminist theory. Her current book project, "Immaterial Traces: Objects, Archives, Dust (1980-2020)," examines the poetics of ephemerality, fragility, and precariousness as transformative forms of disruption, creation and resistance in contemporary Latin American and Latinx culture. 

In addition to her research, she has a diverse teaching background at the undergraduate level. Her course offerings span all levels of Spanish language instruction, as well as specialized courses in contemporary Latin American literature, theory, film, and art. She has earned Certificates in both Mentoring and Teaching Excellence, as well as in Inclusive Hybrid Pedagogy. In the past she has earned fellowships including roles as a Pedagogical Fellow and a Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation Fellow. 

Her articles have appeared in journals such as Discourse, Liminalities, Photographies 17.1 and Taller de Letras.
