Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers courses in Spanish and Portuguese and in the literatures and cultures of Latin America and Spain. We are a fairly small department and students benefit greatly from the relatively low teacher-student ratio in our classes.

We have a large number of majors in Spanish, and an even larger group of minors. Realizing how important knowledge of Spanish will be for their chosen careers, many of our students choose to double major, combining Spanish with disciplines such as anthropology, business administration, history, international relations, journalism, and political science. The same is true for our minors, many of whom find that the requirements for the minor in Spanish allow sufficient flexibility to accommodate their primary field. Whether you want to major or minor in Spanish, or simply want to maintain contact with the language or with Latin American or Spanish culture, many of our courses will surely appeal to your interests.
